Holly the Donkey

This is Holly. The only donkey that I can say that I enjoy trimming it's feet. Yes I also look after a few donkeys.
They are dumb animals ( at least that's what I think ) they never learn. One way to get them to stand is you SCREW their ear. However don't forget that you must SCREW the side you are working on or it's brain won't cope.
Holly is owned by Sue and Mark. One day about 3 years ago I was shoeing a horse for a friend of theirs and this woman ( Jenny )decided to have Holly's hooves trimmed to say thanks to them.
Following this trim Jenny went for a ride on her newly shod horse and along trotted Holly. The first time she had ever done this. So now Sue ensures that Holly is trimmed on a regular basis and heaven help me if I am late.

Laminitis

Yesterday I had to attend to five Welsh mountain ponies with Laminitis. We have had about 8 days of sunshine after a very long wet spell and the grass is growing like crazy. The owner said they had only been moved onto fresh pasture about two days ago and bingo they are all in a bad way so please keep an eye on your horses and ponies

Our Bulls

Photos of our Angus Bulls out grazing for the winter at home. Won't join their cows until 20th January 2008.

260,000

See I travel a lot in my work. The other day my speedo clicked over 260,000 and I couldn't resist with my camera beside me.

Thanks To Timothy

Well this is a good start but it was all done by Tim. From now on all entries will be done by me. I hope I can remember how. Well a visit to Wellington has also been educational.

Newspaper Fame!

This is me shoeing Marie TeHuia's thoroughbred (Bart) outside the Aria Church in Piopio. This photo was featured in the Waitomo News last Tuesday. Even before I'd seen the paper in the morning I'd received three phone calls from potential clients!

My first blog post.

This is my first blog post. I am just posting to see what happens. My son Timothy is helping me set up a blog/journal so that I can keep people up to date on my horseshoeing activities!
